Our host for this year's National Rail Awards is television presenter Nick Knowles. Although best known for his involvement in DIY and home makeover programmes, Nick has recently experienced the wonders of the world by train. While hosting “Amazing Railway Adventures with Nick Knowles”, he went on a range of globe-trotting trips, from digging up ancient artefacts to swimming in the freezing Arctic Circle. His destinations included Mexico, Romania, Malaysia, Italy, and Vietnam.
After starting out in the building trade, Nick got his big break on Channel Five, before joining the BBC. There he fronted City Hospital, as well as DIY SOS. In recent years, he has presented a number of prime time Saturday night quiz shows such as Break the Safe, Secret Fortune and Who Dares Wins - as well as taking to the jungle as a contestant on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.
Nick has journeyed to Africa to lead teams building shelters and wells, audition budding wildlife photographers, and see the work of Sport Relief, and has presented a week of live broadcasts from inside a prison.
His experience as an established presenter and his amazing railway adventures over the last three years make him the perfect host for this year’s event.
